the tide
a poem written a while back
heard it coming from a mile away,
couldn't run, couldn't hide.
wasn't just a touch or a gentle sway,
everything turned upside down with the tide.
pushed under the surface, no escape found,
no one watched, no one heard a sound.
felt my lungs give in as i drowned,
no one watched, no one heard a sound.
grabbed onto the nearest sliver of hope,
swam to the closest piece of land.
thought i'd be able to thrive and cope,
standing alone on the vast stretches of sand.
haunted by the eerie and unfamiliar, i prayed,
hoped desperately that i could be saved.
no one watched, no one heard a sound,
then sunk in the feeling; would i ever be found?
put together a raft to row back to what i once called home,
floated away from the land of nightmares and crushed dreams.
surrounded by dark waves and treacherous foam,
hit by the fleeting thought; could anyone hear me scream?
finally reached the familiar shore,
searched high and low to find the life i left behind.
all i could see were broken buildings and unfinished lives,
no traces found of the things i had cherished before.
so there i was, lost in the middle of nothingness,
hurtling towards oblivion, no safety harness.
the tide came in, and everything shifted,
would i ever remember how all the pieces fitted?
